(…) Other highlights are the pieces based on chant, in which soprano Magna Ferreira sings the chant melody in a style reminiscent of Monteverdi’s Sonata sopra Sancta Maria. In Coehlo’s Sobre Pange Lingua, the chant is introduced first, and the fantasia-like polyphony grows out of it, while Ferreira’s pure tone soars through the texture of Sobre o Seculorum, also by Coehlo. Speculative this performance might be, but it is technically assured, musically polished and eminently listenable. (…)
